Steamship Island Home stuck in the ice. Passengers are on deck, and spectators are on the ice, some skating. A dory is being hauled towards the steamer, to transport freight back to shore, 1893.
As an island, Nantucket has always been dependent on the ferry service to deliver food, mail, and other supplies. When the sound freezes up, supplies and people are often hauled from the boat over the ice to the island. Occasionally, the boat will be frozen in place. Here the steamship Island Home in stuck is the ice, 1893.
