Holiday Island

Was: $19.95
Now: $10.00

After the whaling industry collapsed Nantucket became a ghost town.  Prosperity was reestablished in the 1870s when Americans began to take summer vacations at the seaside.  Residences became boardinghouses; entrepreneurs and visionaries established hotels, inns, restaurants, ice cream saloons, tearooms, dance halls, skating rinks, theatres, art galleries, and clubs.  Holiday Island tells the story of those happy times and points out the changes that have come to this "land far out to sea."
